German intelligence services will be able to track messages of citizens in messengers

“This is necessary in order to monitor serious threats to our rule of law,” explained the representative of the Cabinet.23.jpg

The German government has approved a bill developed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic, which provides for the expansion of the powers of the country's special services. It is proposed to give special services the right to control conversations in messengers, as well as be able to read messages in WhatsApp and other encrypted message services.

According to current legislation, German intelligence services can only track calls from messenger users. The German government hopes that the reform of this clause will make it possible to more effectively fight extremism.

The representative of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Federal Republic of Germany Ulrike Demmer emphasized that this is, first of all, necessary in order to monitor serious threats to our rule of law.
