A resident of Brest, who was charged with committing hacker attacks on user accounts in various countries of the world, will appear in court on Thursday, law enforcement officials said.

Employees of the department for solving crimes in the field of high technologies of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Brest Regional Executive Committee detained a 23-year-old resident of Brest in early 2020 on suspicion of involvement in the hacking of more than 150 thousand accounts of citizens of different countries. A criminal case was opened against him.

"On August 6, at 10:30 am, the Leninsky District Court of Brest will begin considering a criminal case against a person accused of committing a crime under Part 1 of Art. 354" Development, use or distribution of malicious programs of the Criminal Code of Belarus, "Sputnik was told on Wednesday court.

The sanction of the article provides for punishment from a fine to imprisonment for up to 2 years.

As reported in the Department of Internal Affairs, it was established that, according to the materials of the case, from the fall of 2018 until the moment of detention, the accused used a hacker program to gain unauthorized access to users' pages on social networks, which picked up logins and passwords.

There, he went through more than 150 successful authorizations, found "accounts" on websites, entered personal accounts and debited money from accounts.

"And if there was no money, then he was engaged in cheating likes and votes, after which he tried to sell the account at a higher price," the law enforcement officials said.

The Brest hacker was "burnt out" when he shared the method of criminal earnings with a friend. He sent a malware file to a friend, and when he tried to use hacker software on one of the famous gaming platforms, he came to the attention of the operatives of the "K" unit.
